Long before the wheel was invented, potters made graceful bowls, statues and tiles using only their hands. Come and learn this ancient and yet modern art form. You will have a chance to try several different techniques including pinch, coil and slab building.Next you will learn surface treatments including sgraffito, bas-relief, and inlay. Finally you will add a beautiful glaze and fire your piece. If you are just getting started in ceramics this is a great class to get your hands dirty and learn to handle clay. You will have fun and make new friends as well as creating a unique work of art to keep forever.
The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks. All materials are provided. In addition, you will have one month’s free membership to Fresno Ideaworks so that you can come in and create even after the end of the class.
Your instructor, Aaron Caldwell, has returned to Fresno for the summer after earning his BA in Studio Arts and Art History with an emphasis in ceramics, from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He will be returning this fall to continue towards his master’s degree. He is deeply interested in art as a part of our cultural history and the legacy of our forefathers
